E-mail-petition Amina Lawal
 vm-people have received the same viral e-mail peition twice today. The text calls the recepient to immediate action in order to save the life of Amina Lawal. According to the sender the woman from Nigeria is threatened by deah-penalty because of adultery.The truth is that the information given in the mail are false. Armina Lawal’s sentence has been quashed in September last year. In an official Statement Amnesty International warns Internet users that actions like these „may be counterproductive and are no help for persons who suffer from abuses of human rights“.
Nevertheless, the death penalty in Nigeria still exits. Instead of passing along false e-mail-petitions Amnesty International recommends those who want to take action to write a letter to the President of Nigeria. |
