BookCrossing

If you come across a book these days for example on a park bench on a bus or in a coffe-shop, it doesn’t necessarily mean that somebody has been forgetful. It is very possible that you have been “bookcrossed”.

“BookCrossing” is the brainchild of Ron Hornbaker, a programmer, living in Kansas City. His vision is to make the whole world a giant library. How does it work? As a bookcrosser you have to register a book on the bookcrossing-website, then you label it and finally you release it somewhere in the wild. If the finder is a bookcrosser as well, you will receive a mail telling you where is your book now.

To help this idea spread vm-people will release a copy of Malcolm Gladwell’s “The Tipping Point” somewhere in Berlin today. For all those who won’t find it: In this book you get to know how a good idea like BookCrossing spreads.
